Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Biology (PRFB)

The National Science Foundation – Directorate for Biological Sciences (BIO) awards Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Biology (PRFB) to recent recipients of the doctoral degree for research and training in selected areas supported by BIO and with special goals for human resource development in biology. The fellowships encourage independence at an early stage of the research career to permit Fellows to pursue their research and training goals in the most appropriate research locations regardless of the availability of funding for the Fellows at that site. For applications under this solicitation, these areas are (1) Broadening Participation of Groups Underrepresented in Biology, (2) Interdisciplinary Research Using Biological Collections, (3) National Plant Genome Initiative (NPGI) Postdoctoral Research Fellowships and (4) Integrative Research Investigating the Rules of Life Governing Interactions Between Genomes, Environment and Phenotypes. This award comes with a salary of $54,000 and $15,000 for benefits. The length is 2-3 years of funding depending on the research area.

The National Research Council – Research Associateship Programs.

The Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine sponsors a number of awards for postdoctoral and senior researchers. These awards provide the opportunity for recipients to do independent research in some of the best-equipped and staffed laboratories in the United States. There are four annual review cycles, questions can be directed to 202-334-2760 or rap@nas.edu.

TEACRS (Training in Education and Critical Research Skills).

TEACRS is designed to prepare talented young scientists for the multiple demands of an academic career in biomedical research. Trainees spend on average 75% of their time conducting bench research and 25% of their time in career development activities. The application deadline for positions beginning in the fall is March 1. Questions can be directed to 617-636-0825 or TEACRS@tufts.edu.

Pathways To Science
